The Danish Royal Family has today announced that His Royal Highness Prince Henrik of Denmark has passed away at the age of 83.
The royal family’s statement read: ‘His Royal Highness Prince Henrik died on Tuesday, February 13, at 23:18 peacefully in his sleep at Fredensborg Palace.’
‘The Prince was surrounded by Her Majesty The Queen and their two sons.’
The Prince had been suffering from several health battles of late, with the royal spending most of his time in hospitals the last few years. It was announced in 2017 that Henrik had been diagnosed with dementia.
His Highness is survived by his wife of 50 years, Queen Margrethe, son and daughter-in-law Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary, son and daughter-in-law, Prince Joachim and Princess Marie, as well as his several grandchildren, Prince Nikolai, Prince Felix, Prince Christian, Princess Isabella, Prince Henrik, Prince Vincent, Princess Josephine and Princess Athena.
Our thoughts are with the entire Danish Royal Family at this difficult time.
