Before you dash to your local store, it’s worth checking whether it will be open.

Unlike the major supermarkets, IGA stores are independently owned, which means hours vary significantly from store to store, and from suburb to suburb.

And if you are a hot cross bun fan, take note: IGA research reveals that despite all the wild flavour combos out there, 58 percent of Aussies still reach for the classic traditional fruit bun. So make sure you stock up with enough for your guests, too!

When is Easter 2026 in Australia?

Good Friday falls on April 3, Easter Sunday on April 5, and Easter Monday on April 6, which gives most Australians a four-day long weekend.

School holidays in most states run until Monday, April 20, so there’s plenty of time for the whole family to enjoy the break.
