He had anything but a happy upbringing, but Dean (Patrick O’Connor) is finally about to uncover a clue to his past. Going through his mother Karen’s (Georgia Adamson) belongings with Colby (Tim Franklin) after Karen leaves the Bay to undergo psychiatric treatment, Dean makes a discovery.
Hidden in an old suitcase full of memorabilia about Dean, a mysterious envelope addressed to Karen contains information that may relate to the father Dean never knew.
“Dean’s known absolutely zero about his real father’s identity until now,” says Patrick.
“A deal was worked out between his mother Karen and his father that she would never mention him or who he was.”
As Patrick explains, Dean had accepted the fact that he may never find out the truth.
“Due to the behaviour of his mum, Dean learnt to be independent and fend for himself from a young age,” says Patrick.
“So his interest in finding out who his father is hasn’t really been a priority.”
Understandably, then, Dean feels completely torn when it comes to opening a door to his extremely difficult past. “He’s quite anxious about the prospect that he could learn about his father now,” he says. “It brings up an old wound of growing up without a father.”
What will Dean do?
