George Michael’s family has reportedly banned the late singer’s boyfriend Fadi Fawaz from attending his funeral.
Speaking with The Sun, George’s childhood friend Andros Georgiou revealed that Fadi, who found the star dead in his bed on Christmas day, is “not welcome” at the ceremony.
“Heaven help him if he turned up,” the 54-year-old said.
“Fadi has not been invited to the funeral – the family hate him.”
“They know what he is, and everyone basically thinks he’s a gold digger.”
This comes after the emergency call made by Fawaz when he found his partner’s lifeless body was leaked, prompting the Michael family to call for a full investigation.
“George’s family and friends are extremely upset and truly appalled that such a personal, painful and clearly confidential recording has been leaked,” a statement issued by solicitors acting on behalf of Michael’s loved ones read.
“On their behalf we will be ensuring that a full investigation takes place to establish how this material was made available and we will expect the culprit(s) to be dealt with appropriately.”
Georgiou, who was so close to Michael he was often referred to as his cousin, has also blasted Fawaz for his conduct during the 999 call, labelling it as “wrong.”
“It didn’t make sense when I read the transcript – and I have listened to the call over and over,” he told the British newspaper.
“Fadi sounded way too calm, when really you’d be hysterical and crying.”
The former music producer also revealed intimate details about the family’s plans for the ceremony, which is currently on hold until the coroner releases his body.
“It will be a small and secret affair, with possibly less than 50 people,” he said.
“The hope is that George is in the ground before people find out about the funeral.”
According to Georgiou the Careless Whisper hit-maker will be buried in his favourite shirt from his final Symphonica concert tour and will be wearing a gold Cartier watch and a ring engraved with his nickname, Yog.
He said the family have chosen the outfit as they prepare to lay his body to rest beside his late mother Lesley.
