She’s in a wonderful relationship with long-term beau Vincent Manchini.
But Tina Arena wasn’t always this lucky in love.
Speaking with Mamamia, the singer-songwriter has opened up about her tumultuous four-year marriage to her former manager Ralph Carr.
“It was appallingly treated under Australian law,” she said.
“Financially, I went back to zero after 25 years of work.”
While their divorce was finalised in 1999, the songstress explained that the financial strain of the drawn-out split left her with little time for the “legal concept” of tying the knot.
“The concept of marriage is a beautiful thing,” she continued.
“But I don’t have any respect for how it can be used and how the law makes so much money through people’s demises.”
This isn’t the first time Arena has opened up about the pairs “disgraceful” union.
In her autobiography Now I can Dance, the 50-year-old revealed that she felt “disconnected” from her husband after he became angry that she had refused to sell photographs from their wedding day.
She also confessed that her family members were worried about her mixing business with pleasure and tried to convince her to be a “runaway bride.”
“They had their reservations about the wedding,” she told News Corp back in 2013.
“And they were right. There was a lot learnt from that experience. That’s important to not forget. But sometimes you should listen to what the people around you are telling you.”
