She’s been out for the spotlight for nearly two years, but singing sensation Susan Boyle has now come out of seclusion to reveal the truth behind her mysterious disappearance.
Confessing a health crisis was behind her absence, the star revealed that she’s been diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes, and may never return to the stage as she deals with issues related to her Asperger’s Syndrome.
Having shed two stone, she’s proud of what she’s achieved after doctors warned her about her health.
‘I needed to stop eating sweeties and cakes,’ she told British newspaper The Mirror. ‘It’s the bane of my life.’
But her other issues haven’t been so easy to conquer. The star confesses that Asperger’s has played a role in her inability to promote her recent album with a tour.
‘I haven’t performed live because I’ve been ill. The short answer is that it has been connected to my Asperger’s syndrome.
‘When you sing, you put on a persona. I hide behind that person on stage. You can feel like death, but you have to put it on. The audience wants to see someone smiley.’
But refusing to give up, the star says she is taking ‘baby steps’ as she faces the future.
