Serena Williams has caused a media storm following her shock loss to 20-year-old Naomi Osaka in a controversial US Open final.
Umpire Carlos Ramos handed Williams several violations throughout the game.
The first of the violations was for gestures made by her coach, Patrick Mouratoglou. Williams smashed her racket and received her second violation. “You owe me an apology!” she said. “I have never cheated in my life!”
Williams was issued a third penalty when she told Ramos , “You stole a point from me. You’re a thief, too!”.
Osaka then when on to beat her, 6-2, 6-4.

I was rooting for #Serena. Always will. #Osaka played well and it’s unfortunate her first grand slam win will be overshadowed by this unusual decision by the ump.
