Hollywood rivals Angelina Jolie and Jennifer Aniston are at each other’s throats once again – but this time it isn’t over Brad Pitt.
The A-list stars are reportedly fighting tooth and nail to gain the attention of one of Hollywood’s most powerful men, Netflix executive Ted Sarandos. Jen was spotted schmoozing up to the high- flying TV exec – who’s in charge of the network’s new content – at the Golden Globe Awards recently, while Ange didn’t let him leave her side at the recent Critics’ Choice Movie Awards.
It’s believed that both actresses are ‘desperate to resurrect their careers in 2018’ and believe starring in a top Netflix drama is the way to go.
‘In the space of a few weeks, Ted has suddenly become the luckiest man in Hollywood,’ says an insider. ‘To have both Angelina Jolie and Jennifer Aniston openly competing for his attention… he must be pinching himself !’
But while the rivalry reaches fever pitch, it seems Jen has already gone one up in her battle with Ange. The former Friends star has already been signed up to star with Reese Witherspoon in a new TV show – believed to be for Netflix – which has made Ange see red!
‘Ange has been pitching for a Netflix show for a while now – all the big stars are turning their attention to TV these days,’ says an insider.
‘So when Ange heard that Jennifer’s upcoming TV project with Reese Witherspoon has been slated to be a Netflix hit. She was overcome with jealousy – seeing Jen turn up at the Netflix party when she was there trying to network really pushed her buttons.’
Adds a TV insider: ‘Ange has been a silent player in Hollywood for years now and has had the luxury of taking a back seat while the offers roll in to her. But no more.
‘Since her split from Brad, hardly any big offers have come her way, so for the first time in years she’s had to go out there and hustle and mingle with some of Hollywood’s biggest stars and movers and shakers to try and get things going.
‘We never see her mix with other stars, but lately she’s been photographed with Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman and Ewan McGregor. She’s had to go back to basics.’
Jen’s career, meanwhile, has stalled too after a string of box- office flops that were slammed by critics. But with a TV role on the cards with Reese – who’s the toast of Hollywood with her TV hit Big Little Lies – she’s hoping the tables are finally turning.
‘She’s been inspired by watching Reese and Nicole Kidman really make it big in TV, not to mention her hubby Justin Theroux in The Leftovers,’ says a source. ‘So getting the part with Reese has been huge for her. She’s really hoping this will turn her career around in 2018.’
The renewed hostility between Ange and Jen first came to light at the Golden Globes earlier this month, where, despite the pair’s best efforts to remain civil after finding themselves in the same room for the first time in three years, tensions boiled over at the Netflix afterparty.
‘When they both turned up, Ange was furious. She screamed at her minders for allowing it to happen,’ says an insider. ‘You could cut the tension with a knife.’
