Jarrod Woodgate: ‘I was worried for Keira’s mental health’

The former reality star speaks exclusively to New Idea.

After announcing their shock split last month, Jarrod Woodgate sat down with New Idea to exclusively reveal even more details about his tumultuous relationship with Keira Maguire, and exactly where things went wrong.

Despite a whirlwind onscreen romance, the Bachelor In Paradise star admits in the real world, Keira’s obsession with social media got in the way of their relationship and he believes, it’s affecting her mental health.

‘I have seen her stress so much on what to post on Instagram to the point where it started affecting her mental health,’ a heartbroken Jarrod reveals. ‘I was suggesting she goes and gets a job because she was sitting at home on the couch on her Instagram doing nothing five days a week and that was affecting our relationship.

‘I wasn’t the only one telling her this but she took offence. I guess that’s what happens when you base your whole life and whole relationship on Instagram.’

The 31-year-old also explains that Keira often felt pressure to live up to people’s unrealistic expectations about how she should look and dress.

‘During the week she always had something on, like getting her hair blow-dried, make-up done, eyelash extensions done, nails done, or eye brows waxed,’ the Toms Cap Vineyard manager admits. ‘It upset me because she was always busy saying, “Oh I can’t do today. I have a spray tan and then a facial,” and I was like, “OK that’s great but can’t you postpone it to hang out with me?” She needed to look good always and didn’t think about the relationship.’

Despite having once discussed the prospect of marriage and babies, Jarrod reveals he has no interest in ever getting back with Keira, 32, or dating anyone right now, even if Sophie Monk – who he professed his love to on The Bachelorette last year – tried to reconnect.

‘I don’t plan on dating for a while; in the future I would like someone who isn’t obsessed with social media. If Keira had handled this better there could have been the potential for us to work it out, but not anymore.

‘Without being mean or hating on her, I think she has only looked out for herself,’ a frustrated Jarrod admits. ‘And as for Sophie, no, I would never get back with her. I am over that relationship so there is no rekindling that flame. I haven’t spoken to her in months.’
