Anh has confirmed he will make a movie of his hugely popular book The Happiest Refugee, which will be directed by Aussie movie legend Russell Crowe.

The star tells Sydneys Daily Telegraph that he is seriously considering playing the role of his father, Tam Do, in the story of his familys terrifying escape from Vietnam, and his childhood growing up in Australia as a refugee.

‘I’m considering playing the lead, which is the role of my father, he told the paper. That would be an amazing experience. The only thing is my dad was about 50 kilos when he came out on that boat, and I’m about 87. So no more Krispy Kremes for me.’

While the star is still working on the script, and there are no specific plans yet for a start date on filming, he says hes looking forward to helping to cast his young self.

‘We’re working on a screenplay at the moment. It’ll happen when it happens. What’s exciting about it is we’re going to hold auditions for a little six-year-old Vietnamese kid to play me, and he has to have a wonky head and really big teeth.’
