TV veteran Graham Ross is no stranger to changes in the industry, and now, he’s welcoming in a whole new generation!
Speaking exclusively to New Idea, the Better Homes and Gardens presenter, 78, spoke about how it feels to be passing the baton on to up-and-coming TV stars, like Robert Irwin.
“I’m an old codger, and he’s one of the new generation coming through, which is fantastic,” he told us on the red carpet for the 66th TV WEEK Logie Awards.
He was looking forward to seeing how Robert fared hosting the Logies as he discussed the changes he’s seen in his decades on television.
With Robert also winning his first Logie for Most Popular Presenter on the night, it’s clear the budding TV superstar is already making a name for himself.
“It will be interesting to see how young crocodile wrestler goes [at the Logies], which will be great, which is always good, I think they’re fantastic for television,” he said.
“I’ve been in television every week since 1987, I’ve seen a massive amount of change, a lot of change in programs and formats.”
So, where does he feel Australian TV is falling short?
“I love competition programs, I love Pick a Box, which was my vintage,” he told us.
“I love [The] Chaser, the questions, the answers, the Q&A, I love where Australians are being tested.”
“We don’t have enough shows with music, we don’t have enough with Australian performers, singing, playing musicians, we need to get our musicians back on screen.”
“We need more Countdown programs, we need a really good late-night show, Australia desperately really needs a good late-night show.”
As for who could host? He joked that Robert might be first in line following his Logies hosting stint!
With Robert locked in to host Australian Ninja Warrior and a $50 million TV deal on the horizon, he won’t have any shortage of options, that’s for sure.
