The shock divorce of Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt last week, followed by Naomi Watts and Liev Schreiber this week has left many of wondering if these couples can’t make it, then who can.
Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell, that’s who!
Speaking on Britain’s ITV Loose Women this week, Hawn, who has been with Russell for 33 years, believes the key to their success is never getting married.
‘I would have been long divorced if I got married,’ Hawn, 70, said
‘If you need to be bound to someone, then it’s important to be married,’ she added. ‘If you are independent, then it’s important to not be married.’
When asked why they refuse to tie the knot, Hawn instead asks why they should get married.
‘What is marriage going to do for us? At the beginning, you want to see each other all the time,’ she explained. ‘Then you get jealous when they’re gone too long and that’s exciting. But for a healthy long-term relationship, then 68 per cent of the time is good.’
The couple have one son — Wyatt Russell — together.
