Ellen DeGeneres is heartbroken after her 91-year-old father tripped and fell at his California home, breaking his hip according to US magazine Star.
The TV favourite, 58, has now paid for her father Elliott and stepmum Virginia, 85, to move out of their first floor apartment and into an assisted care facility.
‘Ellen is absolutely devastated about the accident,’ a source tells Star.
‘She’s a loving, devoted daughter, and they’ve come so far together since they became estranged years ago, when she first told him she was gay.
‘Now she’s determined to do everything she can for him.’
Ellen came out to her dad aged 19 in 1977 when she was living with him and Viriginia in New Orleans, six years after Elliott had split from her mum, Betty.
‘He asked me to move out of the house,’ Ellen previously said.
‘They just thought it would be better for me to live somewhere else because [Virginia] had two daughters.
‘They didn’t want me to be that around her little girls.’
But father and daughter have since mended their relationship.
Speaking in 2014, Elliott told Star: ‘I love her very, very, very much.’
Elliott was also a guest at Ellen’s 2008 Beverly Hills wedding to Melbourne-raised Portia de Rossi.
