Camilla has stormed off home to England on bad terms with Charles after tension between the pair boiled over.
To add fuel to the fire, her husband Prince Charles was reportedly ‘besotted’ when he met Australia Zoo’s wildlife conservationist Terri Irwin.
Charles met with Terri, 53, and her two children Robert, 14, and Bindi, 19, on Lady Elliot Island off the coast of Queensland on the Great Barrier Reef.
According to royal sources the Prince of Wales and Terri hit it off immediately.
‘Charles and Terri got on like a house on fire when they met – and Camilla didn’t like it one little bit,’ says a royal source.
At the time, Camilla was attending another event in Brisbane, but when she returned to her room to see photographs, and hear how well Terri and her husband had got on, she was left reeling and ‘utterly jealous’.
‘As soon as Charles and Terri started talking, it was like there wasn’t another woman in the room for Charles – he hung off her every word and just seemed completely besotted with Terri,’ the sourced spilled.
‘Charles couldn’t get enough of Terri. There’s no question that the Duchess of Cornwall was left utterly jealous.’
The insider added that the spark between the pair was clearly obvious and Charles was openly flirting with Terri.
‘The chemistry between Terri and Charles was evident to everyone who saw them. Charles was looking for any little excuse to touch Terri’s arm, and was giggling and blushing.’
Terri also went to great lengths to express how much she enjoyed meeting Charles, with the mother-of-two tweeting: ‘Incredible honour to meet His Royal Highness The Prince Of Wales. After reading his book “Harmony”, it was lovely to discuss conservation.’
The source said the final nail in the coffin for Camilla was hearing how her husband and Terri had so much to talk about.
‘Camilla is also jealous of how much Terri and Charles had in common. They spoke at length about the environment – a cause close to both their hearts – and Terri’s conservationist efforts.
Charles was blown away by all the work that Terri has done and is doing,’ the insider added.
In fact, Terri and Charles had so much chemistry that Camilla was left realising her marriage could be on its last legs.
The couple’s relationship has been rumoured to be on the rocks since last year, with their marriage under strain more than ever over the past few months.
The recent trip Down Under was supposed to be their make-or-break holiday, and it appears that Charles’ behaviour in Queensland has left the duchess considering her options.
‘Camilla felt like she and Charles have nothing in common by comparison, and seeing him engage so completely with another woman was very sobering for Camilla.
‘She realised their marriage is now in more trouble than ever,’ the royal source added.
