On Sunday during The Sunday Project, host Lisa Wilkinson appeared to be put on edge when quizzed by her co-host Hamish Macdonald on a possible career change into politics.
During an interview with Dr Kerryn Phelps who has recently confirmed her bid for Malcolm Turnbull’s seat of Wentworth, Hamish asked, “How do you think Lisa would fare against somebody like Tony Abbot given the mood you’re describing?”
Dr Phelps claimed that Lisa would be “awesome”, while Lisa added that she “already had a job.”

Lisa further added that she was “ruling it out” and that, “I do not know where this has come from!”
Hamish continued to push for an answer while revealing that the speculation was “in the newspaper, that’s where it came from.”
As he continued to query Lisa he asked, “As an Independent, maybe, one day?”

Instead of specifically denying the potential career change, Lisa instead discussed the logistics that would surround such a change.
“Erm… Look, I’m really interested, fascinated, by politics, but I think the life of a politician would be just awful and I admire people who go for it.”
She also added that she admires the politicians who “really stuck by what they believe in.”
“But I think that’s the problem in the political climate at the moment, no one is sticking to what they believe in and that’s why Malcolm Turnbull went,” she added.
Hamish appeared unsatisfied with her answer and asked her, “Can you honestly tell me you don’t think that you’d do a better job than Tony Abbot representing your community?”
To which Lisa responded, “I am not going to answer that question [laughs]. It would come back to haunt me.”
