Here it is: the moment eight brave and powerful women overcame their fears and insecurities to strip in front of a theatre full of cheering people, all for the amazing cause of breast cancer awareness.
Home and Away legend Lynne McGranger, fellow cast member Georgie Parker, singer Casey Donovan, health and wellness guru Simone Callahan, Olympian Lisa Curry, singer Ella Hooper, TV presenter Rachael Finch and fashion fave Nadia Bartel all did what most of us would never dare to do – and Australia is so proud of them all.
‘It was amazing being involved in this, we had such a great sisterhood because raising awareness of breast cancer was so important to all of us,’ Nadia told David Koch and Sam Amytage on Sunrise .
Lynne overcame her own reservations as an act of homage to all the women who have fought against the disease, including her former co-star and friend Belinda Emmet, who eventually passed from the disease.
‘It’s awful when anybody gets this disease, but to discover a lump when you’re 23 and not really think much about it or do anything about it until it’s too late is just horrendous,” she recalled
‘It doesn’t matter if you’re 13 or 113, if there’s an irregularity in your breasts, go and get checked. That’s the message we really want to get across.’
It was as bumpy road to the show’s triumphant ending for some of the cast, with Casey suffering a panic attack during rehearsals.
‘I’m having an anxiety attack,” she told Home And Away’s Georgie Parker as she burst into tears.
Speaking about her attack, Casey says the performance is the most she’s ever been out of her comfort zone.
‘Being the only plus, plus size woman in this cast, it’s confronting. I struggle with anxiety on a daily basis, I could feel it creeping in,’ she confessed in voice-over.
Casey admitted that when she was first asked to be a part of Ladies’ Night, she had to think about it.
‘It was a massive thing for me to take on board,’ the 31-year-old told The Morning Show.
‘To bare half of me, when usually I like the lights off and for nobody to really see me in that state, it was a big thing to stand there and go, I am me, I am confident – this is who I am.’
What an amazing result from these inspiring women!
Now, please be breast cancer aware, and please get checked regularly – early detection is key to a good outcome. You can read more about breast cancer here.
