Channel Seven presenter Mel McLaughlin is alleged to be the target of an obsessed stalker, according to reports in The Daily Telegraph.
Police are alleged to have launched an investigation after a USB stick left containing hours of unauthorised surveillance footage of the network star was found at a fast food outlet.
The chance discovery of the footage has prompted police to step up an already ongoing investigation into ‘dozens’ of reported threats and a break-in at McLaughlin’s north shore apartment, The Telegraph reports.
Seven Network Sydney news director Jason Morrison confirmed the network had been in contact with police.
‘Police have been involved in investigating a series of threats and serious incidents,’ he said.
‘I am aware that police have spoken to a suspect several times and warned him. Despite that warning, the problem has continued.’
The unnamed man is alleged to have hired a private investigator to follow Mel and capture 18 hours of footage of her in both personal and professional situations.
