The fiancé of accused Aussie drug mule Cassie Sainsbury has landed in Colombia – however his attempt at visiting his embattled partner ended in disaster.
Scott Broadbridge was turned away from the El Buen Pastor prison in Bogota where the 22-year-old is currently being held.
Dressed in a hooded top and a pair of dark sunglasses hiding his face, he refused to speak to reporters as he left the prison.
Cassie’s mother Lisa Evans and her sister Khala also arrived shortly before midday yesterday local time.
Speaking yesterday for the first time about life inside the prison, the Adelaide fitness trainer/cleaner said she had been pushed around by other inmates and fears a threat to her safety isn’t “very far away”.
“There’s a lot of chaos here … quite a few of the inmates here are very pushy with me. They push past me. They start abusing me in Spanish because they know I don’t understand it and I haven’t actually done anything wrong,” she told News Corp.
Speaking of the photo that was released earlier in the week of Cassie laughing and joking with another inmate, the accused Aussie said she was “tricked” into the photo.
“I didn’t give permission for that to go out nor did I know that it was going out,” she said.
Ms Sainsbury was arrested at El Dorado International Airport on April 12 after 5.8 kilograms of cocaine was allegedly found hidden inside 18 headphone boxes in her suitcase.
She was filmed earlier this week at the prison, laughing and shouting at cameras alongside fellow inmates.
She is kept on Patio 5 of the prison – an area reserved for foreigners and “higher-class” inmates who set strict rules including regular showers and hygiene checks.
As well as being target by inmates, Cassie revealed she fears she in danger from an illness that has made her lose feeling in her arms.
Doctors have told her it is down to stress and have provided her with vitamins however she’s concerned it’s something more serious.
I don’t eat red meat and I told the doctor I needed to see a dietitian and they just basically said ‘oh well you have to eat what you’ve been given’.’
Just hours after Cassie broke her silence, her mother, sister and Scott landed in Columbia after it was revealed her family had set up a $1 million TV deal with Channel Nine’s 60 Minutes – with Cassie saying she was shocked to learn about the eyewatering deal.
“My mum and sister haven’t told me anything of what they’re doing,” she said.
“They’re just going out and doing it on their own. That’s my problem.”
“It’s my story. They need to get permission from me to sell my story.”
