Son ‘killed mother and sister with hammer’

Police in Long Island have arrested a 34-year-old after his mother, sister, and sister’s friend were found bludgeoned to death with a hammer in their home.

It is alleged that Bobby Vanderhall entered his mum’s place in the early hours of the morning and beat his 58-year-old mother, Lynn Vanderhall, 29-year-old sister, Melissa, and Melissa’s friend, Janel Simpson, 29, to death, striking each with a hammer.

Police were called to the scene after a fourth woman in the house escape, barefoot and bleeding from hammer wounds, leapt onto the bonnet of a neighbour’s car, screaming for help.

The neighbour, Earl Sykes, 38,  says ““She kept saying, ‘He’s trying to kill us! He’s trying to kill us!’ ”

Police allege that Vanderhall attacked his family members after being kicked out of the house earlier in the year for showing violent behaviour toward his mother, reports NBC.

Lt. Stephen Fitzpatrick of the Nassau County Homicide says he found the hammer in the garage and used it to break into the house.

Vanderhall was arrested after being found sleeping in his car 3km from the crime scene and charged with three counts of second-degree murder and one count of attempted murder.
