THIS is why Keira Knightley wore a cap in Love Actually

The actress spills one very well-kept (and relatable) secret.

Keira Knightley was just 17 years old when she starred as the enviably beautiful Juliet in the cult movie Love Actually.

Audiences loved her beautiful smile and the sweet way she dealt with her fiancé’s best friend Mark after he revealed he was desperately in love with her, despite the fact she was engaged to his best mate.

We also fan-girled over her cool girl style – in particular the flat cap she wore in several scenes. But it turns out Keira’s choice of accessories had less to do with an innate sense of style and more to do with something far less chic.

In an interview with BBC Radio 1, Keira has revealed that the oversized conductor’s cap her character, Juliet, wears was designed to hide a massive pimple smack-bang in the middle of her forehead.

“This is the problem with being 17 and being in films. It was humongous, so there was no choice but to find a hat to cover it — because there was no lighting or makeup that was going to cover it.”

A good-humoured Keira says despite the years that have passed (the film was released in 2003) she still remembers the moment and with crystal clarity.

“It’s funny how you just remember extreme embarrassment,” she told BBC Radio 1.

“I remember coming in in the morning, being like, [gasps] ‘Oh wow, I’ve got another head on my head. What are we going to do? There’s nothing we can do about this,’” she said.

“But there is, because you can always put a hat over it. I was actually very grateful for that hat. I have a lifetime of gratitude for that hat.”

Us too! Why? Well, we always thought it was dead stylish. And now we know it was seriously practical too. Plus, it allowed a self-conscious woman to feel good about herself. And we’re so here for that.
