What a difference a year makes.
In 2017, on Jennifer Aniston’s 48th birthday, Justin Theroux couldn’t help gushing about his wife, publicly declaring his love with a sweet birthday message via Instagram.
However, this year, the Hollywood couple’s three-year marriage lies in tatters, with the pair spending Jen’s 49th birthday thousands of kilometres apart and Justin fielding offers from publishers to release a tell-all book about Jen’s relationship with ex-husband Brad Pitt.
While Jen celebrated her special day with a bunch of her close gal pals, including fellow Friends star Courtney Cox, Justin was pictured hobnobbing with British TV star Alexa Chung at the New York Fashion Week.
In fact, Justin has been in New York for some time without his wife, and now sources are saying that he’s been approached to reveal the truth behind their marital woes.
‘Justin has been asked by several book publishers to write a tell-all about his relationship with Jen – and her friendship with Brad,’ says a source. ‘Obviously this is very worrying for Jen – the last thing she wants is their dirty laundry being aired.
‘There’s no denying there are problems in the marriage – and Jen’s friendship with Brad has been a cause of concern for Justin. Ever since Brad and Ange split up, Jen has become more of a shoulder for Brad to lean on – Justin, like most husbands, is jealous of this.
‘Jen has said point-blank that she doesn’t want him writing a book. But just the fact that they’re discussing it is causing more tension.’
However, Jen’s increasing closeness to Brad isn’t the only reason why she and Justin, 46, have drifted. The fact that she refused to come and live in New York with him because she thought their neighbours were spying on them has been a huge problem for the pair.
‘She insisted on staying in LA, and with his career keeping them apart while he filmed for The Leftovers, it just added to the tension,’ says the source.
Last week, rumours swirled that Jen was refusing to stay at their New York apartment after accusing their elderly neighbour of spying on them. In new court documents obtained by Grazia, Justin has claimed that Norman Resnicow – who has been locked in a bitter battle with the pair for months – has been spying on their Greenwich Village home.
But despite living increasingly separate lives and being annoyed about Jen’s friendship with Brad, friends have warned Justin to say ‘no’ to the book offers.
‘He would love to write a book to add another feather in his cap,’ says a pal. ‘Justin is very creative and very artistic and would love to explore other mediums like writing or photography, and do something other than acting.’
‘But now’s not the time to be talking about his marriage to Jen or her friendship with Brad,’ they added.
‘Maybe Justin will want to do it down the line, but at the moment he just needs to focus on his marriage.’
