The usually unflappable Mat was in for a shock when he collapsed at the end of renovating Pete and Courtney’s backyard.
“The week before we didn’t quite finish so we felt a lot of pressure to make sure we finished and we didn’t want to leave any stone unturned so we just pushed and pushed,” Mat tells New Idea of his week on the Channel 7 reality TV show.

“I was fine till about 5 minutes before it finished and I started to feel a bit woozy and get jelly legs and I thought, ‘Oh, I don’t feel good here’.”
As the buzzer went off, Mat fell to the ground before the medical team rushed to his side.
“My body just shut down on me and I struggled to breathe,” he says.
“I got really hot and this horrible nauseous feeling came over me and I started to panic.”
The other teams watched on in concern as Mat appeared to be getting worse, before the nurse called an ambulance.
Accompanied by brother Tim, Mat was rushed to hospital.
