In September 2008, the thrill-seeker was almost left
a paraplegic after splintering his vertebrae in a stunt gone wrong while driving a seven-and-a-half-tonne monster truck.

He was forced to lie still for the next six months, and took two years to fully recover.

‘It was the wake-up call
I needed,’ he said at the time.

Never one to say no to a dare, racing v8s and doing 300m bungee jumps over Bondi Beach was all in a day’s work for the former Sunrise weatherman – but it was his work as a TV star that saw him face his closest brush with death.

In 2014, Grant and Cheryl fought allegations that they had sought treatment for drug addiction – with Grant citing ‘chronic fatigue brought on by exhaustion’ as the reason behind his stint in a Thai rehab centre, while Cheryl was ‘dealing with PTSD and anxiety issues resulting from Grant’s condition’.

The worn-down presenter was told tests revealed years of early mornings and working round the clock had left his organs running at seven per cent.

‘I just pushed too hard, too long. It was a juggernaut that I couldn’t stop,’ Grant admitted at the time.

‘I didn’t see the warning signs. I thought I was invincible and I f***** up.’
