The idyllic Sydney weekend getaway – Bannisters at Port Stephens

You won't regret it

Sitting on a white-washed balcony overlooking the shimmering ocean, I admire the white sailboats and their large masts floating upon the turquoise waters. In the distance is a small island kissing the sun as it begins to set, providing a true ‘postcard moment’.

You’d be forgiven if you thought this scene was somewhere in the Hamptons, perhaps a delightful European coastal town – in fact – this is the view from one of Bannister’s rooms at Port Stephens.

For busy Sydney siders, weekend getaways are becoming the most desirable option when it comes to a holiday, and Bannisters newest hotel in the unique coastal hamlet of Port Stephens makes for the perfect short trip away if you’re looking for good food, a decent pampering session and an abundance of activities.

Arriving at Bannisters and the nautical-themed rooms with vintage verandah separators still bare the bones of ‘The Sally Shore Hotel’, the 60’s motel which once stood here.

Like their Bannisters by the Sea property in the affluent holiday destination of Mollymook, Bannisters at Port Stephens holiday spot it also built from a 1960’s resort.

The retro skeleton gives the hotel a charming and nostalgic quality, but Bannisters also provides the modern luxuries one hopes for in an indulgent weekend away.

While Port Stephens offers up its fair share of activities, you could happily plant yourself in the hotel for the weekend and thoroughly enjoy yourself.

Overlooking the infinity pool, order a cocktail (or three) before you head down to Rick Stein’s for dinner. The Terrace Bar isn’t just a place to drink, the menu (available both for lunch and dinner) is both extensive and a real treat, giving a whole new meaning to the term ‘bar food’.
