The Block’s Jesse and Paige have sparked significant controversy online following their interesting opinions on floorplan and family.

In episode two of The Block 2024, Paige becomes determined to change to floorplans of their house and relocate their main bedroom to the mezzanine level on the other side of the house where a guest bedroom and rumpus are currently planned.

This change would split the main bedroom in half to create two smaller bedrooms. “It doesn’t make sense, the way that it’s been constructed,” Paige said of the original plan.

“There were so many better options of a floorplan. It’s just bizarre.”

Each home was carefully planned out by The Block’s international award-winning architect Julian Brenchley. When Julian became aware of Jesse and Paige’s plans, it’s safe to say he wasn’t thrilled with the idea.

Julian approached Jesse and Paige about whether they have kids or are planning to have kids in the future, which followed up with the question, “How far do you think parents would want to sleep from their kids?”

“Honestly it’s always pretty 50/50 when you think of a two-story house, you ask one person and they go ‘I would love to have a Master upstairs’ and then you ask maybe predominantly dads and they’re like ‘No, I like to downstairs [to] protect the household,'” Paige said, remaining adamant on her decision.

“Maybe it’s different over in Victoria but people in WA don’t wanna be near their kids,” Paige later said to the camera.

Julian then continued to defend his work on the floorplans, stating that there were a “number of reasons why we drew it”.

“Being upstairs [and] downstairs is one thing, but being complete on the other side of the house is another thing,” he explained to Jesse and Paige. “It’s quite a big distance.”

“In a house of this size, you try to have a family close together and then your guests would be separate.”

Paige decided to ignore Julian’s advice despite being told they were “probably not on the right track” and instead continued to try and change the floorplan.

“He told me that he loves to be close to his family,” she said. “Can’t relate.”

As fans watched the drama unravel, they took to X/Twitter with their own opinions on the matter…

Despite all the trouble they went through, and the breakdowns that came along with that, the couple ended up reverting to the original plans that Julian picked for House No.1 as it got all too hard.
