Flight attendants Chris and Lesley from QLD are set to cook up a storm in the forthcoming episode of My Kitchen Rules, but just how did they meet?
New Idea speaks to the couple about their special bond which spans over twenty years where they met through work.
“Because we’re both European language speakers, we often got rostered on the same flights. Up to Frankfurt, up to Rome, up to Paris,” Lesley reveals.
But they found they really bonded over their love over cooking.
“The fact that sometimes during the middle of the night when all the passengers are asleep and you’re on that really long haul, let’s say between Bangkok and Rome, a lot of those trips. Everyone’s asleep, you’re just doing your patrols, making sure that everything’s in order and you have time to talk and we just swapped recipes all the time,” Lesley adds.
“So we both developed that friendship through the love of cooking, then of course getting to Rome and misbehaving very badly,” she laughs.
But apart from wining and dining in the best restaurants, Lesley remembers cooking was a struggle at times.
“Bringing groceries back, lugging things all the way back to Australia that you couldn’t get in Australia at that time. For example, you couldn’t get Aperol, there was no Aperol in Australia then, so I would bring bottles of that back and make cocktails with it and so forth.
“That’s one of the things that sticks in my mind, but there were other things that we would bring back as well. Certain pasta brands, we didn’t bring anything we weren’t allowed to. But a lot of foodstuffs, and chocolates. Just things that really you couldn’t get in Australia at that time. A lot of food-related shenanigans!”
Watch Chris and Lesley cook on Sunday night’s episode of My Kitchen Rules at 7pm on Channel 7.
