Earlier this year a popular teething tablet made headlines after it was recalled in the US. Now, a recall has been issued in Australia.
In February, the US Food and Drug Administration warned that in some cases Hyland’s homeopathic teething tablets contained unsafe levels of the “toxic” substance belladonna.
Belladonna, which comes from the deadly nightshade plant, can be poisonous.
The Therapeutic Goods Administration said over the weekend that parents should return the tablets to their place of purchase, reports the Sydney Morning Herald.
“While the TGA had tested samples of these products supplied in Australia and found no quality issues, Kadac is now recalling the tablets as a precautionary measure due to the potential safety risk that belladonna alkaloids can pose to children,” it says.
“The effects of belladonna can be unpredictable and could cause serious health problems.”
Anyone who has purchased Hyland’s Baby teething tablets or Hyland’s Baby nighttime teething tablets are advised to return them to the place of purchase for a refund or call Kadac on 1300 762 025.
