Perth mother-of-five Bec Ashforth, 34, is 162cm tall and weighed 113kg at her heaviest.

Ms Ashforth said being overweight has been a “lifelong struggle”, 7News.com.au reports.

Her decision to make major lifestyle changes was prompted by the birth of her first child Felicity, now nine.

“I thought, this isn’t how we should teach them to grow up,” she told 7News.com.au.

Ms Ashforth started reading the Healthy Mummy lifestyle and cookbook to help her lose weight, which taught her how to buy healthy foods and plan her meals in advance.

Her favourite healthy dish, low-carb Indian butter chicken, quickly became the family’s go-to meal.

‘It’s the kids’ favourite,” she said. “It’s so warming as well in the winter time and it fills up your belly.”

Ms Ashforth credits her healthy diet for helping maintain her energy levels during “terrible” pregnancies with her youngest kids, Lillian and Matthew.

“I didn’t eat mindlessly and made sure that everything I put in my body was nutritious. I was probably more aware that I needed to be in premium condition.”

With her newfound approach to weight loss and wellbeing, Ms Ashforth discovered she weighed just 55kg – six weeks after the birth of her youngest baby.

She maintains her trim physique and keeps body fat down with light cardio, yoga and of course, her healthy diet.

“I feel so different all round,” Ms Ashforth said of her diet plan.

“I’m studying to become a personal trainer – I wish I could get into every woman’s ear and tell them ‘you’re worth it, make the effort, don’t give up’.”
