Sure they look cute and make for good movie inspiration (thanks, Happy Feet), but these warring penguins are far from the cute, fluffy little guys animal watchers know and love.
National Geographic Tweeted out an almost three-minute video of the real dramas of a live in the Arctic Circle as a penguin and when there’s monogamy involved, its’s not pretty!
The video tells the short and evidently painful realisation by a penguin that whilst out fishing, his female companion penguin had taken another lover.
The result is a painful bludgeoning for both himself and the home-wrecking penguin with an outcome nobody expected.
Apparently, unlike birds of flight, penguins’ wings are made with solid bones – much like a human’s – so can prove to be as painful as a baseball bat beating to the recipient. Couple that with the fact their beaks can double as spears right for the eyes of their enemy and you have one terrifying video.
Already, followers of National Geographic and Tweeters in general have taken the meming the video and even going so far as to make an account for the female penguin over who the two males fought!
