Mum ‘cut in half’ in horror hospital lift tragedy

She was recovering from a c-section.

The devastated family of a mum-of-three ‘want answers’ after the 26-year-old was ‘cut her in two’ by a malfunctioning lift in a hospital just hours after giving birth.

Rocio Cortes Nunez was waking up from a c-section shortly after giving birth while being moved on a gurney through the corridors of the Valme Hospital in Seville, Southern Spain.

She was on her way to the maternity ward to recover with her baby when the tragedy occurred.

Reports say that the mum was waiting inside the lift when the doors opened and closed twice without the lift moving. Frustrated, the staff began to wheel the gurney out of the lift in order to try another lift when the elevator car began to move upward.

‘Local reports said firefighters took two hours to reach her mauled body after her head was trapped between the lift frame and roof as it started moving upwards and her feet left dangling in the lift shaft,’ report The Mirror.

An investigation has been launched into how the accident occurred – with Regional Health Minister, Marina Alvarez, saying the lifts had been checked on August 12 with no concerns.
