Toni Basil rocketed to the top of the charts all over the world back in 1982 with her smash hit single Mickey – and then dropped off most people’s radars. But the former pop sensation is back in the spotlight – and back on stage – at the ripe old age of 74.
Toni was a featured performer at the 15th Annual LA County Walk To Defeat ALS in Los Angeles overnight. In Australia the condition is more widely known at motor neurone disease.
Working up a sweat onstage, it seems as though Toni is still the figure of fitness she was back in the early eighties when she stormed stages with her famous cheerleader anthem.

Toni was last in the news in September when she filed a lawsuit against numerous companies for allegedly using her song without permission, leaving her “despondent and physically ill”, with the singer complaining she has “experienced sleep deprivation, nightmares and anxiety.”
She wants $25,000 in damages and $750 for each time the song has been used, in such shows as RuPaul’s Drag Race and South Park.
