Lisa Wilkinson’s sensational exit from the Today Show has seemingly had little effect on the ratings of the popular morning show.
According to The Age, the breakfast program recorded an average of five-city audiences consisting of around 246,200 people last week.
The audience figures are only slightly less than the show’s first week back in 2017 when the program netted an average five-city audience of about 278,000 people.
At the time of her shock departure from the Nine Network, many sources claimed that Wilkinson’s immense popularity among viewers was the reason she deserved more pay, and ultimately why the popular host switched to Channel Ten.
Nine subsequently replaced Wilkinson with Georgie Gardner, a former Today Show newsreader.
Currently, Channel Seven’s Sunrise ranks in at no. 1 for breakfast television, winning all five weekdays last week, and increasing it’s lead on Monday with a metropolitan audience of about 300,000.
Seven is crediting its early win to keeping a consistent host on the program over the summer period, as well as consistently providing live interviews with Hollywood and Australian A-listers, including Margot Robbie, Hugh Jackman, Zac Efron, Will Smith and Camilla Cabello in the first month of the year alone!
