Royal expert Angela Mollard recently spoke about why she thinks Charles will be close to Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s first child in the latest episode of New Idea Royals podcast.
“There’s a lot of talk that this baby will be the one that Prince Charles will be close to,” Angela says adding that he may even be closer to them than Wills and Kate’s children.
“The Middletons have a strong family unit, but Meghan doesn’t have that and because of not having that anchor point, Charles will play a strong part in their child’s upbringing,” Angela adds.
“He’s incredibly protective of her. I think they will be very close. He’s at that stage of his life and he’s incredibly fond of Meghan,” she continues.
Prince Charles showed his support for Meghan when her father Thomas Markle was a no-show at her wedding and he walked her down the aisle.
“Prince Charles was very touched to be asked by Meghan to walk her down the aisle, and he is very much looking forward to welcoming her into the family,” a source told US Weekly at the time.
Reports have also surfaced that Charles thinks Meghan is “the best thing to have happened to Harry” and has a real “soft spot for her”.
As such, Charles will no doubt be welcoming baby Sussex with open arms and will take his role as grandfather seriously.
