Meghan Markle is one of the most unpopular royals.
From the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s relationship with Prince William and Kate Middleton scrutinised at every turn, to the most recent ‘private jet’ scandal, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have weathered their fair share of negative press over the last few weeks.
Taking to Instagram, it seems Meghan and Harry have made a public plea for compassion after sharing a telling quote by the Dalai Lama.
“I believe that at every level of society — familial, tribal, national and international — the key to a happier and more successful world is the growth of compassion,” the quote reads.

The Sussexes captioned the pic: “The 14th Dalai Lama, Tenzin Gyatso, is a spiritual leader and a man of peace.
“Through this approach he has received over 150 awards, honorary doctorates, and prizes in recognition of his message of peace, non-violence, inter-religious understanding, universal responsibility and compassion.”
Meghan and Harry faced public criticism after chartering a jet to Spain and France for a family holiday with baby Archie, with the British press pointing out such a move contradicts their very vocal stance on protecting the environment.
As well as the British public in an uproar over the extravagant travel option, according to American publication the Star, the Queen was also unimpressed.
“She’s accused the couple of making a mockery of the monarchy, especially after Harry was called a hypocrite. She goes up to Scotland for a no-frills summer break and strongly believes that her grandson should follow suit instead of splashing out hundreds of thousands of dollars on mansions in Ibiza and the south of France like some A-list celebrity.”
Immediately after the private jet scandal hit the British press, Princess Diana’s close friend Elton John came out to publicly defend the couple.
In separate Instagram and Twitter statements, Sir Elton John claimed he had provided them with the private jet as well as the French holiday home for the couple.
“I am deeply distressed by today’s distorted and malicious account in the press surrounding the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s private stay at my home in Nice last week,” Elton began his lengthy Instagram post.
“Prince Harry’s Mother, Diana Princess Of Wales was one of my dearest friends. I feel a profound sense of obligation to protect Harry and his family from the unnecessary press intrusion that contributed to Diana’s untimely death.”
Elton went on to explain that the private jet he organised for the environmentally friendly couple was carbon neutral.
“After a hectic year continuing their hard work and dedication to charity, David and I wanted the young family to have a private holiday inside the safety and tranquility of our home. To maintain a high level of much-needed protection, we provided them with a private jet flight. To support Prince Harry’s commitment to the environment, we ensured their flight was carbon neutral, by making the appropriate contribution to Carbon Footprint™.
“I highly respect and applaud both Harry and Meghan’s commitment to charity and I’m calling on the press to cease these relentless and untrue assassinations on their character that are spuriously crafted on an almost daily basis.”
