Foundation has the power to change the way we look and for the better too but only if it’s applied correctly.
If it isn’t, we’re better off going without. It’s that simple.
So how do we get it right?
Firstly, you must first choose the right foundation for you. This means it needs to suit your skin type (oily, combination, dry) and also your lifestyle. You might like to wear a liquid for example or prefer a stick foundation. That is entirely up to you.
Once you’ve tracked down the perfect product you need to apply it so that it highlights your beauty and downplays any teeny, tiny flaws. You can make that happen by doing the following.
Dot or stroke the foundation onto your face.
Sali Hughes, beauty expert and author of Pretty Honest (Fourth Estate) suggests you apply it to your forehead, upper cheeks, jawline, nose, eyelids and chin.
From here you need to blend up and out towards your hair and jawline.
Try NARS Sheer Glow Foundation, $72.

A word of warning.
“If you can see brush or sponge marks in the foundation, you’re applying too much of it,” says Sali.
Skip your neck. Too much product here will only end up on your clothing. Also, it will feel gross, says Sali. Instead, ensure you blend extra well along the jawline.
Try Hourglass Vanish Seamless Finish Foundation Stick, $70.

Next, add a touch of creamy concealer where it’s needed if at all.
Bobbi Brown suggests you use a yellow toned concealer. This shade is most flattering for all colourings, she says.
Finally, add a dusting of face powder to set. Voila – you are good to go! And you look gorgeous too.
Try MECCA Max Life Proof Cream Concealer, $22.

PS: Got freckles? Opt for a sheer foundation and let those babies shine through. Freckles are darling and also, youthful.
Try Kat Von D Beauty Lock-It Setting Powder, $24.
