After 11 wonderful years, could the end be nigh for one of Gogglebox’s favourite – and original – families?
New Idea hears the much-loved Dalton clan are edging towards the exit as daughters Millie and Holly become busier than ever with their careers, friends, boyfriends and lives away from the family couch.
The Melbourne-based family, which also includes parents Matt and Kate, and until recently, their dog Ace, have been on the show since its beginning in 2015 alongside other remaining OG cast members, Lee and Keith, Faye and Anastasia and the Delpechitra family.
“They’d love to keep doing Gogglebox as a whole family for as long as they can, but the reality is everyone’s lives are moving in different directions,” a TV insider tells us.
“It’s heartbreaking because they all know this chapter can’t last forever.”
When Australia met the Daltons, the girls were in school.
But now they are in the 20s and Holly is working as an account manager, while Millie is an HR consultant.
“There’s no doubt the family have been a huge part of the show’s success,” our insider adds.
“But life happens and it’s simply becoming too much of a juggle to accommodate the filming schedule into the girls’ busy diaries.”
As a result, very filming night has now become even more meaningful for parents Kate and Matt, who are determined to soak up every special moment with their girls.
“Doing the show has been a wonderful way to connect as a family,” Kate previously told New Idea.
“It’s created wonderful memories for us – and we’ve met some incredible fellow Goggleboxers, who’ve become friends, along the way too. We’ll carry on for as long as we can.”
When asked about the speculation, a production spokesperson said: “The Dalton family love being part of Gogglebox, and we look forward to welcoming all four of them back to the couch this season.”
Our insider adds, “Nobody wants to be the one to call time. And while there’s no definite or set end date for them, it’s becoming increasingly impractical for them all to continue.”
When that day eventually comes, it’ll be emotional for the whole family – and for viewers, who’ve watched the girls grow up.
“Show producers will no doubt try and convince them to stay,” our insider says. “But they’ll make the call to go, on their own terms, if they can.”
