While Martin Short might have hopes to marry Meryl Streep, New Idea hears that she might not be on the same page.

While Meryl’s three daughters, Grace, 40, Mamie, 42, and Louisa, 34, are reportedly pushing their mother to tie the knot, the actress is holding back for now.

Meryl and Martin, who have enjoyed working together on Only Murders in the Building, have been open about their friendship, but continue to dance around their relationship status.

New Idea previously reported that they have talked about tying the knot, with talks that it would be a star-studded wedding in Southern California, including guests like Tom Hanks, Rita Wilson, Steve Martin, Selena Gomez, and Cher.

“And it took some time for Meryl’s girls to understand that their mum is the one holding things up.”

Our insider claims that Martin has proposed “several times”, but Meryl wants to keep things the way they are.

“But everyone sees how happy she is – she’s found the perfect partner in Martin – and the fear is he could lose interest if he’s not being taken seriously,” the source alleges.

While they might not be walking down the aisle any time soon, New Idea has reported that they have been looking at properties together.

With Meryl’s hopes to work with her long-time friend on the West End, buying a property could be the cherry on top.

“If their Broadway project goes according to plan, they’ll be hoping to eventually move it to the West End,” another source tells us.

Even though they already had a strong bond, they reportedly grew closer following the loss of his oldest daughter, Katherine Short, in February 2026.
