Despite the Ocean’s Eleven sequel, Ocean’s Fourteen being confirmed, New Idea hears that Julia Roberts has reportedly needed to be the peacemaker between Brad Pitt and George Clooney.
This December marks 25 years since Ocean’s Eleven hit our screens with George Clooney, Julia Roberts, Brad Pitt and Matt Damon at the helm, but plenty has reportedly changed since then.
“George and Brad [Pitt] just aren’t as close as they used to be,” an insider exclusively tells New Idea. “They’re still blaming each other for their failed reunion movie Wolfs doing so badly, and with Brad now the box office darling, he’s not as available as he’s been in the past.”
“And it’s driving George crazy. It’s hard enough scheduling such a big ensemble cast, but worse when the two driving forces behind it are having a ‘biggest trailer’ showdown.”
New Idea understands that the pair have reportedly been pulling together the original cast for the sequel, with George allegedly nervous about the impact Margot’s prequel would have.
However, there has been friction behind the scenes, with another source claiming that Julia Roberts has had to step in order for them to work together.
The source explains that she has enough “box office clout” to talk some sense into them and act as the “big sister”, claiming that she allegedly plans to walk away if they don’t sort things out.
Are they making an Ocean’s Eleven prequel?
Margot’s prequel, which Bradley Cooper is signed on to write, produce, direct and co-star in, will follow the parents of George’s character, Danny Ocean, as they plan to pull off an elaborate heist at the 1962 Grand Prix.
Filming is expected to start soon, with a theatre release anticipated for June 25, 2027.
At the time of publication, a title hasn’t been revealed, and the Gravity star is determined for Ocean’s Fourteen to be a box-office success.
“It’s the only major money-making project he has lined up right now, and he’s desperate for it to work,” another entertainment expert tells New Idea, adding that he’s putting alleged pressure on the Barbie star to make sure it’s done right.
The franchise already has an established legacy with Ocean’s Twelve (2004), and Ocean’s Thirteen (2007) following the 2001 remake of the 1960 classic.
“This is more than just caretaking his bread and butter,” another Hollywood insider tells us about the concerns the Out of Sight Star is having.
“He’s worried a subpar prequel could torpedo interest in a proper sequel reunion, but Margot’s not stupid, and bringing in Bradley was nothing short of genius.”
With 12 Oscar nominations already under his belt, an insider says that Bradley can “push back against George if needed”.
