Chris Hemsworth is one of Australia’s better known actors, partly due to his success of portraying Thor in Marvel’s Avengers franchise.
With great success comes great money and it has been reported on multiple sites that the 35-year-old has earned close to $90 million in the last year alone. However, Chris has now revealed that he feels uncomfortable with his immense wealth as he was raised in more modest circumstances.
Talking to GQ Australia, he said, “I feel gross about it.”
He also revealed that he is worried that his children are being raised in privilege which is a stark contrast to his own modest upbringing.
“The fact that we have money and their parents are famous, that somehow they’re special, that scares me because we grew up with no money,” he claimed.
Chris also explained how when he was a teenager it took him a year to save $600 for a surfboard and that it taught him lessons on appreciation and how to work hard for something. It’s lessons like this he hopes his children will learn.
“Elsa and I talk a lot about how we instill that same appreciation and respect for things. I don’t want them to feel like they’re privileged in any way,” explained Chris on his parenting techniques with wife Elsa.
This confession on privilege and wealth comes after photos emerged that show the mega-mansion the couple are building near Byron Bay at Broken Head, NSW.
The construction has already been likened to that of a ‘shopping centre’ or a ‘hospital’.
The public have had mixed reactions to the construction of the mega-mansion with some accusing the famous couple of being hypocritical due to their reputation of being conscious about the environment.
It has been estimated that the architecturally-designed home is costing Chris roughly $9 million.
The home is expected to house multiple features including a gym, steam room, luxury spa, media room, games room, and a large swimming pool.
Vast outdoor spaces and six bedrooms are also expected to be included.
