It is suspected the boy had been suffering from hypothermia and went into cardiac arrest outside his home on Sunday morning.
Paramedics declared the boy had passed away around 7:30am on the scene.
Despite having hypothermia, a 35-year old woman and 56-year-old man have been arrested over suspicions of negligence. They have although since been let out on bail as police continue to investigate further.
A police spokesman said: 'A man and woman were arrested on suspicion of wilfully ill-treating a child after a seven-year-old boy was found deceased at a property in Cook Street, Nechells, on Sunday, November 26, just after 7.30am.'
He further added: 'The 56-year-old man and woman, aged 35, have been released under investigation while enquiries continue.'
A post-mortem examination is set to be conducted to confirm the exact cause of death.
