Soft, touchable feet is actually harder to achieve in summer than the cooler months. Heat, sun and water are all working to dry out your feet. Combine this with wearing rubber thongs and/ or going bare foot and your tootsies will have a hard time recovering.

The best way forward is prevention. Did you know that skin on feet is different?  It’s thicker, has more sweat glands but no oil glands to keep it soft. It’s extremely sensitive to touch with a high concentration of nerve endings so cells will divide quicker in response to friction or pressure to form even more hard skin for protection.

Once the soles become dry the constant pounding when you walk can split the skin. Then once you’ve cracked a heel it will take a bit of effort to return skin back to normal.

Follow these simple tips to keep them baby-soft.

  1. Keep your fluids up in the heat. Make sure you drink 1 litre of water a day.
  2. Limit thong wear – save them for the beach and don’t wear them long distances.
  3. Use a pumice stone in the shower daily
  4. Moisturise the soles of your feet when you apply your body cream
  5. Skip the salon and do you own self-care in 2019. Watch the video to DIY a salt scrub that will leave your feet baby-soft.

To undo the damage:

First get rid of flaky, dry skin. Soak then scrub, pat dry and apply a thick moisturiser at night after showering to lock-in moisture. Wear socks to bed for happier feet by the morning.
