As her eldest daughter Princess Eugenie prepares to marry Jack Brooksbank at St. George’s Chapel on October 12, we look back at Sarah ‘Fergie’ Ferguson’s wedding dress from her royal wedding to Prince Andrew.
Fergie, the Duchess of York, married Prince Andrew in 1986 in an over-the-top fairytale ceremony wearing bespoke dress by unknown London designer, Lindka Cierach.
Featuring a scooped neckline and fitted bodice, the silk ivory gown’s unconventional design was a first for any royal bride.
The gown also featured the letter ‘A’ (for her now-ex husband Andrew) secretly embroidered on the 5 metre train.

Bumblebees and thistles were also embroidered onto gown as a nod to represent her family’s crest.
Fergie wore the York Diamond Tiara at her wedding. The sparkler was commissioned for Fergie as a gift rom Queen Elizabeth.

With special meaning behind it, it’s likely that Eugenie will wear the same one on her wedding day.

We will have to wait until Friday October 12 to see if Eugenie takes any cue from Fergie’s dress for her own!
Seven News is airing every moment of Princess Eugenie’s wedding live from 7pm, as the only Australian broadcaster with cameras inside the Chapel. More info here!
