Netflix has been praised for its portrayal of the royal family in The Crown, but there’s one relationship they downplayed: The one between The Queen and Jackie Kennedy.
According to biographer Sarah Bradford the actor’s underplayed the tension between the British monarch and the First Lady during a dinner at Buckingham Palace in 1961, Nine reports.
Bradford claims both the Queen and Mrs Kennedy weren’t seeing eye to eye well before dinner even started.
Apparently, the tension began after Mrs Kennedy requested certain guests be present, however, not everyone on her list made the cut.
“No Margaret, no Marina, no one except every Commonwealth minister of agriculture they could find”, Mrs Kennedy reportedly told friend Gore Vidal afterwards.
Additionally, in the diaries of Cecil Beaton, it was recorded that Mrs Kennedy wasn’t impressed with the palace’s furnishings or the Queen’s hair and clothing.
That said, it seems the pair were on better terms in 1965 at Runnymede in Kent in May while attending a memorial to honour the late John John F. Kennedy after his assassination in 1963.
