The end of The Block is drawing near but that doesn’t mean it’s the end of the drama.
With everyone sleep deprived and working in one apartment, it’s predictable that tempers will fray.
And of course Hayden and Sara are in the middle of the commotion.
The NSW-based couple picked the room no-one wanted for their final build – the hallway, laundry, study and water closet – and this week the pressure causes tantrums. Foreman Dan has seen first hand the couple’s ups and downs.

“I felt sorry for them to a degree,” Dan reveals to New Idea. “Part of me did feel sorry for them and then part of me was like ‘suck it up. You put yourself in that situation.’ They picked the hardest room possible for that final week because it’s near impossible to finish. It was inevitable that they were going to break down – and they did.”
Sara and Hayden recently opened up about how they felt left out on the renovation show by the other teams. It’s a claim Dan disagrees with.
“They excluded themselves and as you see, Hayden didn’t really help anyone in the challenge apartment,” Dan explains. “You could see in the final weeks friendships cracking and breaking down. All the other couples were helping each other whereas no-one was helping Hayden and Sara.”
Ahead of the auctions, Sara says the whole experience has been mentally draining.
“By that final week I think everyone was just tired and exhausted and some people’s frustrations are taken out in their car and my frustrations get taken out on the building site.”

The fact that the couple felt isolated only made the situation worse. Sara says the final week highlights their distance from everyone else on the build.
“We were going to order some pizza and we asked the others,” Hayden says of one incident. “And they just said ‘oh nah, we’ve got something sorted’.
“About two minutes later Norm came back with pizzas, so they’d already ordered food and they didn’t even ask us,” Sara adds.
