Bode Miller and wife welcome child 4-months after tragic death of toddler daughter

The couple share the news.

Four months ago, Olympian Bode Miller and his wife Morgan tragically lost their 19-month-old daughter Emeline Grier.

The couple have now shared the news that they have welcomed a healthy baby boy. Morgan was about five months pregnant with him at the time of the accident.

The Millers, who wed in 2012, welcomed their new son on Friday, Oct. 5.

The baby is the pair’s third child together and Bode’s fifth total.

The newborn boy’s name hasn’t yet been shared with fans, but the couple’s midwife, Lindsey Meehleis, revealed that he was born at home in a birth pool, the same way as Emeline almost two years before, according to Today.

Meehleis told the morning show, “Exactly one month before Emmy’s second birthday…the sun rose and they knew this day would be different. An overwhelming feeling of joy started to fill a valley of deep grief and sadness.”

“Morgan’s fingers grasped onto their son, who filled such empty arms,” she continued. “While nothing will ever replace the feeling of aching arms to hold Emmy again, this baby provided something new this day: joy, inspiration and hope.”

Bode and Morgan also share 3-year-old son Nash Skan. Miller is also father to two children from previous relationships: son Samuel, 5, and daughter Neesyn, 10.

In June, the Miller’s shared the devastating news of Emeline’s death.

According to reports, the couple were at a neighbours pool party when the infant slipped through a back door and fell in the pool.

Emeline was in the pool for approximately 30 seconds before Morgan discovered her.

The Orange County Fire Department said at the time that paramedics rushed to the scene and performed CPR before transporting Emeline to a nearby hospital. The baby girl died the next day, on June 10, after she was unable to be resuscitated. Her cause of death was classified as a drowning.

“We are beyond devastated. Our baby girl, Emmy, passed away yesterday. Never in a million years did we think we would experience a pain like this,” Bode said on Instagram. “Her love, her light, her spirit will never be forgotten. Our little girl loved life and lived it to it’s fullest ever.”
