Sacramento resident, Robert Hodges, was taken into custody by California Highway Patrol officers who pulled him over just after midnight on Thursday.

Only hours earlier police were called to an apartment complex in West Sacramento for a domestic violence incident. While on their way to the apartment the officers received a second call, alerting them that the children in the apartment were possibly dead.

First responders at the scene attempted CPR and other life-saving measures on the children, an 11-year-old boy, a nine-year-old girl and eight-month-old boy, but all were pronounced dead at the scene.

By that time their father, Hodges, had already fled the scene.

The police are yet to release any details relating to the children’s death.

West Sacramento Police Sergeant Roger Kinney said, ‘This [investigation] is going to take not hours, not days, it’s going to take a long time, a long time to come to grips with what happened there.’

Hodges is being held without bail for a Monday court appearance, with charges likely to be announced that morning.
