Derryn Hinch is recovering after sustaining a slight head trauma after falling from an Uber in Melbourne.
The 74-year-old spent Monday night at The Alfred Hospital after the incident took place, but took to Twitter to assure his followers he’s on the mend, saying he’s ‘fine’.
‘I stepped on the kerb and I fell over and I banged my head and I ended up in The Alfred hospital,’ he told Sky News.
Hinch said he had two glasses of wine at dinner but denies being drunk.
‘Was I p*ssed? No, I wasn’t,’ he said.
‘I’d had two glasses of wine with my dinner guest that night at their house and I came home and it all happened outside my house. I drink occasionally and I’m not stupid.’
The senator received a liver transplant in 2011, vowing at the time ‘never’ to drink again.
‘I can’t stop myself from falling over — old people do that,’ he said, saying his dodgy knee may have been what caused the accident.
He will return to the hospital today to undergo further tests.
