A five-year-old boy who was thrown or pushed from a shopping mall balcony is fighting for his life.
The child – named Landen – sustained critical injuries after being shoved from the third-floor of the Mall of America in Bloomington, Minnesota by a 24-year-old man on Friday.
Landen’s family launched a GoFundMe page to cover what is said to be “immense” medical and rehabilitation costs, and on Sunday a family friend shared an update about the little boy’s recovery.
“He had a peaceful sleep and is continuing to fight his courageous battle, he’s a strong survivor!”
The child is “in a stable condition, contrary to the rumours and attention seekers out there stating that he has passed” a separate post on the page reads.
Landen has been described as the “sweetest, kindest five-year-old you will ever meet” with a soft and gentle soul and the ability to bring a smile to everyone he meets.
The incident took place on Friday morning while Landen was enjoying a day out with his mother and sister, “when a stranger maliciously grabbed him and threw him over the third floor balcony for no apparent reason”.
According to Bloomington Police via the Pioneer Press, the child and attacker were not known to one another and investigators are still “actively trying to figure out why this occurred”.
The suspect is said to have history of other violent incidents at the shopping centre, court records show.
