The athletics is one of the most highly-anticipated sporting events at the Olympic Games. From sprints and hurdles to javelin and long jump, there is always a lot going on and many athletes to support.
This sporting event is one of the oldest sports on record and contested at the very first ancient Olympic Games.
With its numerous categories and disciplines, the athletics boasts the highest number of participants of any single sport at the Olympic Games. This year, there are 74 Australians competing in the athletics sporting events at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

AUSTRALIAN OLYMPIC ATHLETES TO WATCH
Nicola Olyslagers
Nicola Olyslagers is a 27-year-old from Sydney who is an Australian high jumper. Nicola competed at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics and won the silver medal. This year could be the year she comes home with gold!
Kelsey-Lee Barber
32-year-old Kelsey-Lee Barber is an Australian track and field athlete who competes in the javelin throw. She competed at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics and won the bronze medal.
Matthew Denny
Matthew Denny, 28, is the current Diamond League champion in men’s discus throw and is aiming for his first Olympic medal in his third appearance on the world stage.
Eleanor Patterson
28-year-old Eleanor Patterson is another Australian high jumper heading to the Olympic games this year. Eleanor won gold at the 2022 World Championships.
