Mel B has embarked on a bold new plan to get her life back on track after her messy split from ex-husband Stephen Belafonte – by becoming Australia’s next Bachelorette!

Sources close to the former Spice Girl tell New Idea that she’s preparing to approach Channel Ten with an ‘exciting offer’ to star in the next series of the reality show, determined to put her year of scandal well and truly behind her.

Only last week, Mel B was finally granted a split from her husband of 10 years by a US judge, after a messy court battle that saw her make a string of shocking domestic violence and cheating allegations against her ex.

Admitting that she’s felt ‘close to death’ and ‘paralysed with fear’, the 42-year-old mum has now vowed to go on being ‘extremely fearless’ – and her first step is to get her career and finances back on track.

‘Mel’s determined to do what she’s always done – pick herself up and keep working. She’s really excited about the idea of becoming the next Bachelorette in Australia. She has the right amount of spark and confidence and humour for the show, and is legitimately excited about the idea of putting her messy split behind her and starting afresh with a dating show,’ a source spills.

Production insiders tell New Idea that Channel Ten ‘would be idiots’ not to take Mel B up on her plan – especially after the success that Sophie Monk’s stint on the show brought.

‘Sophie wasn’t the most popular celebrity in Australia going into The Bachelorette
– everyone thought she was a bit of a has-been and was doing the show for her career more than anything,’ says the insider.

‘But she really won them over with her honesty – and that is why the show was a big success.

‘Her relationship with Stu hasn’t proved to be as popular – but in terms of ratings, the bosses were really pleased. Going for another big name like Mel B is a no-brainer and they’d be idiots to say no.’
